1. To prevent your gold jewelry from getting scratched (it scratches easily), keep pieces individually in
separated jewelry boxes, tissue paper wraping, or in pouches designed for jewelry. Wrapping in tissue
paper is the least favorite option, because many a piece of fine jewelry has been accidentally discarded
when mistakenly identified as a "used tissue."
2. Jewelry doesn't "mix" well with showers or baths, so don't take a shower while wearing your gold jewelry. Soap will form a film coating and, over time, make it appear dull and lifeless.
3. To clean your jewelry at home, use a commercial cleaner recommended for gold. Ask us and we can recommend one to you. A soft chamois cloth works well for touching up your pieces and restoring their luster.
4. Ask us at Kingston Fine Jewelry, we can suggest the name of an ultrasonic cleaner that is appropriate for use on some gold pieces.
5. You can remove the tarnish that has accumulated on your gold jewelry by using a
prepared jewelry cleaner, or by using soap and water mixed with a few drops of ammonia.
Regardless of which you choose, brush with a soft bristle brush ((e.g., a soft toothbrush, or clean eyebrow brush),
works well. Whatever you use, make sure to rinse well in tepid water and please remmember to put the stopper
down in your sink!
6. Grease can be removed from karat gold jewelry by dipping the piece into plain rubbing alcohol.
Before immersing in any liquid cleanser, make certain that there are no parts of the piece that are glued on.
7. Put your jewelry on only after you apply your makeup and perfume.
8. Store your gold jewelry in a dry place.
